A protective mother bear and her two young cubs

One strong and snarky the other scrawny but equally loved

The first shaggy and brown inquisitive to a fault

the smaller black as coal but tried to act like an adult

Taught to fish and forage a nap in a warm safe den

a steaming bowl of porridge and a story of the world of men

A cautionary tale that explains the sounds of saws.

that seem to get closer with every coming dawn.

Until the day a circus truck came rumbling through town.

Some guy with a whip was seen wandering around.

And In a berry thicket, he saw the young black cub.

As he snuck up from behind him with a sack and a club

In a blink the cub was gone, sedated crated shipped out west

his surly sibling bared his teeth and ate a ranger in a vest

Now that was years ago, and if the momma bear had known

that her little cub was strong enough, and just how much he'd grown

She didn't know how he' could climb upon the ball

impressing the ringleader when he'd rolln didn't fall

Now he's working in a trio with a tiger and a lion

but he outclasses those cats without even trying

His brother was a bear another color so to speak

he'd walk the trail all menacing, threatening the weak

and he'd roar at the sky when no one could hear

and shit on the trail so other bears would stay clear

[drop]

And the momma bear retired to the big old country cave

where her old and grizzly man like to hibernate away

When she heard a human screaming she would think about her sons

through the dismembering of campers and the children having fun

The smell of the popcorn and the roar of the crowd

the diesel and the chainsaws were getting awfully loud

Until one day it stopped, the trucks and tractors ceased.

the silence stretched, days to weeks, a forest returned to peace.

There were rumors of a sickness that kept the men away.

with rags upon their faces locked in their cubic caves.

The humans didn't know when the circus could resume.

they euthanized the lion and sold the tiger to the zoo.

The bear was turned loose to wander through the land

Would he head north to the ice or to the cities of the man?

as he wandered in the wasteland he thought about his skills

he could stand and wave, drop and roll, but hadn't tallied any kills

he remembered his surly sibling in daydreaming thoughts

considered it most likely he'd already been shot

he remembered his mom and his grizzled old dad

the warm oozing honey and a soft earthen bed

He sat down by the highway, watching the trucks go past

he saw a child waving, he waved back toward the lass

and that's how it happened, he found his new career

now he's a dancing mascot for a northern craft beer

and as for Brother Brown he's well on his way

to a most wanted poster for the people he slays

Now he walks with a hitch cause he's taken his shots

and he keeps his teeth sharp cause they're all that he's got

Woodland wisdom: use what you have, bear necessities are rarely enough

A little booze, a winter snooze, Grin and bear it when times get tough
